Volatility smile

The name given to the curve that represents the implied volatility of in-the-money, at-the-money and out-of-the-money call and put options with the same expiration dates.

The name comes from the fact that the furthest in-the-money and out-of-the-money options generally have the highest implied volatilities, causing the ends of the graph to turn up in the shape of a smile.
